Star Trek actor’s son found dead Full Video

Andrew is the son of Walter Koenig – better known as Star Trek’s Chekov

The actor son of Star Trek veteran Walter Koenig has been found dead in a wood in Vancouver, police have said.
Koenig said his 41-year-old son Andrew, who suffered from depression, “took his own life”.
Police spokeswoman Jana McGuinness said she did not believe anyone else had been involved, adding that a coroner had now taken over the investigation.
Andrew was best known for his recurring role as ‘Boner’ on US sitcom Growing Pains, between 1985-1989.

‘Talk to somebody’
On Thursday, his body was discovered in Vancouver’s 1,000-acre Stanley Park, where Koenig liked to walk and was last seen.
Walter, who played Lieutenant Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series, said his son was “obviously in a lot of pain” to have taken his own life.
In a statement he said that Andrew had given away his belongings and had not been taking his medication. He urged others suffering from depression to seek help.
“If you are one of those people who can’t handle it any more, know people are out there who really care before you make that final decision,” Koenig, 71, said. “Talk to somebody.”

Prince writes Vikings' song 'Purple and Gold' -- listen here FULL SONG

Musical artist Prince has penned a Minnesota Vikings song called "Purple and Gold."

Prince, who is from Minnesota, told FOX Twin Cities affiliate that after he saw the Vikings beat-down of the Dallas Cowboys last week he went home and cranked out "Purple and Gold" because he "saw the future."

The Vikings love the song and have put it on their website. They play the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Jan. 24 in the NFC championship game. The winner will face the winner of the Colts-Jets game in the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.

New pictures of Tiger Woods have surfaced online, marking his first public 'appearance' since his car accident in late November. The embattled golfer has been photographed outside at a Mississippi sexual addiction clinic.

In the online pictures, Woods is shown from a distance, holding a coffee cup and wearing shorts and a hooded sweatshirt as he walks outside the sex addiction rehabilitation clinic he reportedly checked into recently. Woods seems to be looking in the direction of the camera, though it is not obvious that he knows he is being photographed. What is not clear is how the National Enquirer was able to put itself in position to photograph a patient at the normally secretive sex addiction rehabilitation center.

While to date Woods has been able to avoid the public eye as he deals with his crumbling marriage and decimated public reputation, it would seem inevitable that much of Woods' rehabilitation will need to occur in public. The pictures of Woods only serve to remind us of that fact.

One of the few things working in Woods' favor is that his ordeal this winter has occurred during golf's off-season. While it seems likely he will eventually miss some tournaments, the story did not break in the middle of the season and did not require an immediate suspension of his golfing season. As a result, he has been able to disappear from the public eye much more easily and his sex scandal has not yet had a direct impact, really, on his golf career.

But at some point after Woods completes his stay at the sex addiction clinic that he has been pictured in front of, he will presumably try to return as much as he can to his former life. When he does, it seems inevitable that public scrutiny will be even greater than it was before.

Shock and disbelief met news that Bears defensive end Gaines Adams died Sunday morning after going into cardiac arrest because of an enlarged heart, according to Greenwood (S.C.) County deputy coroner Marcia Kelley-Clark.
Adams, 26, had been taken to the emergency room at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood after going into cardiac arrest at his family's Greenwood home. He died at 7:21 Chicago time.

''I thought it was one of those fake rumors that go around that you find out is a lie,'' said Cleveland Browns wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, who played with Adams at Clemson and remained a close friend.

''This time, it turned out to be a tragedy. I just hope people remember him as the great guy he was.''
Adams, a native of Greenwood, was an All-American for the Tigers before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made him the fourth overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. He led all rookies with six sacks that season.
The Bears acquired Adams from the Buccaneers in October for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft. He saw limited action this season but was expected to play a bigger role for the Bears next season.
''I talked to Gaines a couple of weeks ago,'' former Buccaneers coach and current ''Monday Night Football'' analyst Jon Gruden said. ''I was telling him about [Bears defensive line coach Rod Marinelli], and he was very excited to get a fresh start, and I know Rod was very excited about working with him this offseason. They had big plans for him. You would've liked Gaines. Everybody who knew Gaines liked Gaines. This is a tragic loss for us all.''
Greenwood County coroner James T. Coursey said Adams appeared to be in perfect health, according to news reports. The Greenwood Sheriff's Office and the Greenwood County Coroner's Office are expected to investigate.
The Bears issued the following statement:
''We are stunned and saddened by the news of Gaines' passing. Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time.''
In high school, Adams was 6-4, 215 pounds with a 38-inch vertical jump and could run the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He played defensive end for a small private school but was better known as a receiver, catching 158 passes for 4,394 yards (27.8 per catch) and 65 touchdowns. Defensively, he had 341 tackles, 33 sacks and 10 interceptions.
''They tried public school and didn't like it,'' Adams' mother, Linda, told the Orlando Sentinel in 2007 of her two children. ''They didn't like all the disrespect, with kids talking back to teachers. We didn't allow that in our home.''
He wasn't considered a major-college prospect because he posted his gaudy statistics while playing eight-man football. With his college options limited, he opted to attend Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, where he had 22 sacks in one season before signing with Clemson. He became the Tigers' all-time sack leader with 28, including 12½ as a senior.
''I was shocked and saddened to hear this news,'' said Tommy Bowden, who was the Tigers' coach during Adams' career at Clemson. ''When I heard the news, I thought it was his father because he has the same name. I just couldn't believe it was Gaines.''
Adams grew up rooting for the Buccaneers and idolizing former Mount Carmel and Illinois standout Simeon Rice. He was thrilled when the Buccaneers made him the first defensive player drafted in '07.
''Gaines was a quiet, humble kid and is far too young to be gone,'' Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber said. ''He had so much potential that had yet to be achieved, and I'm very sad that the full extent of his life won't be realized.''
Adams is survived by his 5-year-old son, longtime girlfriend, parents and sister, according to Stuckey. Funeral arrangements are pending.

They confront the other housemates, all of whom deny they have a problem with it, which leads Sammi and Ronnie to drop the hammer on Snooki for talking crap about them. She folds quickly and apologizes, and which point Sammi makes her apologize further in front of everyone else. Seriously, this is hard to watch. So far on this series, Snooki has all but prostituted herself out — unsuccessfully — to a steady stream of guys, she has been punched in the face (twice!) and now she is forced to grovel because she got a little chirpy whilst drunk at a bar. Sammi is approaching super-villain status.

That night, we are backing to more familiar territory of going to bars and picking up. Mike brings home a girl, and the two of them end up in a hot tub, then a bed. Vinny and a girl hang out on a hammock. Snooki even meets someone nice, though she seems befuddled as to why they do not have sex even though they shared a bed.

The next night they are back at the bar, and drama breaks out. Sammi is mad because Ronnie talks to a girl! Mike is mad because Vinny talks to his sister, then a different girl! Ronnie is mad because it was Mike who pointed out to Sammi that Ronnie was talking to a girl! You know who hardly is seen at this point?: Jenni. I’m betting it’s because her “top” can only be filmed from certain angles, lest something appear on television that would draw fines from the FCC.

Ultimately, everyone ends up back at the house. Ronnie is still mad at Mike, but Mike is no longer mad at Vinny because he has refocused his attention on Mike’s sister. Shortly, though, Mike realizes that the natural consequence of setting up Vinny with this sister is that ... he SET UP VINNY WITH HIS SISTER. He’s worried about this. Mike: selfish AND dim.

Off to Atlantic City the next day. A fancy dinner devolves quickly when everyone starts taking verbals shots at each other. Of course this often happens with groups of friends, but the key is that you actually have to like each other. Many of this group clearly do not, which results in Snooki blasting Mike for generally being a jerk and telling him no one likes him. A true fact, though awkward as far as dinner-table conversation goes. She then asks someone to pass her a roll. Mike: “Don’t worry, you’ve got a couple.” Zing.
Well. The whole group is outraged by this transgression. Fat jokes are just not on. Later, when the group goes back to the hotel room, Snooki has a good cry. She had weight issues in high school, we learn. It’s fair to say Jenni, Ronnie and Sammi are all firmly in the anti-Mike camp at this point. I think Vinny and Pauly are feigning outrage, but they sure don’t want to come to his defence.

Mike later apologizes profusely. But his turn at chivalry is short-lived when he refuses to taken a drunken, post-puking Jenni back to the hotel room because he’s making out with a girl (. She smacks him, then gets kicked out of the club. When he eventually makes his way back to the room, Jenni punches him in the face. It’s good to see how these kids are able to work things out.

That doesn't include, however, all the good guy viewers of Jersey Shore, who are convinced, once and for all, that Snooki is one of the most annoying things on the planet.

Not to be outdone, Ronnie got into a brawl of his own, leaving Sammi questioning their relationship. Yes, they also set a record for the most number of almost-breakup in an hour. This is sad considering that the episode began rather promisingly, with Ronnie and Mike figuring out their daily morning routine - gym, tan, laundry.

But on to the party. Ronnie and Sammi decided to leave the bar and go home together. But things didn't turn out well in the cab, when Ronnie made a nonchalant comment about Sammi's big toe. Turned out, the girl's sensitive about her feet.

On to another party, a guy in a bar started following them and Ronnie being Ronnie gave him a classic Guido beating, by that we mean rolling the boardwalk. And after a mini-squabble, they made up again, proving that their relationship is one of the more resilient things on Jersey Shore.

Hundreds of thousands of Haitians are awaiting the start of a global rescue effort in the wake of the country's devastating earthquake.

BBC correspondents say the situation is increasingly desperate, with no coordinated rescue plan so far and aid only trickling in.
The search for survivors continues but rescuers have little lifting equipment and are often using their bare hands.
Tens of thousands are feared dead and up to three million affected.
Aid groups say there is a race against time to find survivors under the rubble of the collapsed buildings - the first priority of the rescue effort.
Heavy lifting gear and sniffer dogs are desperately needed to seek out trapped victims, with medicine, food and water also in short supply.
Elisabeth Byrs of the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said: "The priority is to find survivors. We are working against the clock."
The head of Medecins du Monde, Olivier Bernard, told AFP news agency that aid had to arrive by Thursday evening.
"To save lives, surgery must be available ideally within the first 48 hours."
A few US aid planes and a 50-strong Chinese rescue team with sniffer dogs have landed at the airport serving the capital, Port-au-Prince.
Other plane-loads of rescuers and relief supplies are said to be on the way from the EU, Canada, Russia and Latin American nations.
A British rescue team with heavy lifting gear and dogs has landed in the Dominican Republic and will be in Haiti later on Thursday.
International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander said: "This is a tragedy on a massive scale. Britain is playing its part in the huge international response."
US President Barack Obama said the "people of Haiti will have the full support of the United States" in an "aggressive" aid campaign.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has cancelled a trip to Asia to deal with the crisis. Her husband, Bill Clinton, the UN special envoy for Haiti, told the Washington Post the quake was "one of the great humanitarian emergencies in the history of the Americas".
The USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier will arrive on Thursday. The USS Bataan, carrying a Marine expeditionary unit, is also on its way. The Pentagon said it was "seriously considering" sending thousands of marines.
The World Bank is funding $100m of emergency aid.
The World Food Programme is working on supplying 15,000 tonnes of food and the Red Cross has begun a $10m appeal.
The help is desperately needed as there is no coordinated rescue at present.
Doctor's assistant Jimitre Coquillon told Associated Press: "This is much worse than a hurricane. There's no water. There's nothing. Thirsty people are going to die."
Haitian President Rene Preval could not give an official estimate of the dead, saying: "I don't know... up to now, I heard 50,000... 30,000."
He spoke of how he stepped over dead bodies and heard cries of those trapped in the parliament building.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and correspondents say it simply does not have the infrastructure to manage a rescue operation.

One Chilean UN peacekeeper told Reuters: "We just don't know what to do. You can see how terrible the damage is. We have not been able to get into all the areas."
The UN peacekeepers, who played a key role in maintaining public order in Haiti even before the quake, have been deployed to control any outbreaks of unrest as reports come in of looting.
The UN says 16 personnel are confirmed dead and between 100 and 150 staff are missing. They include UN mission head Hedi Annabi.
Medical aid agency Medecins sans Frontieres reported a "massive influx" of casualties at its makeshift clinics, many of them with severe injuries.
Patients with "severe traumas, head wounds, crushed limbs" have been streaming into MSF's temporary structures but the agency is only able to offer them basic medical care, spokesman Paul McPhun told reporters.
Thousands of Haitians spent a second night in the open on Wednesday, too scared to sleep inside damaged buildings. Many sang hymns to keep up their spirits.
The BBC's Matthew Price visited the grounds of one hospital and spoke of seeing about 100 bodies - but there were many people bedding down for the night to sleep among the dead.
The 7.0-magnitude quake, Haiti's worst in two centuries, struck at 1653 local time (2153 GMT) on Tuesday, just 15km (10 miles) south-west of Port-au-Prince and close to the surface.

Haiti Earthquake Damage Update VIDEO

Biblical was the word Secretary of State Clinton used to describe the damage a powerful earthquake visited on Haiti.

And even in a country that has endured deadly hurricanes, unrelenting violence and grinding poverty, the destruction was epic.

Not even the churches were spared.

In the light of day, the wrath of Mother Nature was revealed. She did not discriminate between rich and poor.

She tore down the Presidential Palace, the United Nations complex, the homes of the wealthy few that hugged the hills above Port-au-Prince.

She tore down the shoddy shanties in the swarming neighborhoods where most Haitians live, surviving on $2 a day.

She reduced hospitals and businesses and schools to rubble, burying thousands in the process.

She knocked down cell phone towers, all but cutting off Haiti from the rest of the world.

The quake survivors who were not heaving aside debris in a desperate search for other survivors stood stupefied by the sheer scope of the ruination.

Others moved about a city that was suddenly strange to them - a lunar landscape created by a remorseless force that left a crucifix here, an edifice there, as if to mock them.

Port-au-Prince was Warsaw or Dresden circa 1945 - a ruined hulk that bore the barest resemblance to what it once was.

Except the shabby Haitian capital was not much of a capital to begin with.

"Port-au-Prince was a lost city. Now it is a destroyed city," former Haitian Prime Minister Gerard Latortue said yesterday.

Perhaps now, he said, "this could be a chance to rebuild Haiti in a new way."

Those were hopeful words on a day when the pitted streets of the capital were lined with bodies - most of them shrouded in sheets.

Rebuilding would have to wait. And all day long and deep into the night, the first task of the living was to claim the dead.

Despite the wall-to-wall coverage of the earthquake in Haiti and ensuing destruction, reports out of the country are chaotic and the death toll has not been estimated.

One frequently re-tweeted post on Twitter by journalist Ann Curry indicates that all hospitals in Port-au-Prince have been abandoned or have collapsed:

Doctors Without borders says ALL hospitals in Haiti’s Port au Prince area have either collapsed or been abandoned.

Another terrifying tweet being passed around indicates that the death toll is likely to be very high, and suggests medical assistance is nowhere to be found in the destroyed city:

dead bodies are everywhere i havent seen one ambulance or any proffesionl med care anywhere in port-au-prince

The Prime Minister of Haiti estimates a death toll in the hundreds of thousands. Doctors Without Borders says 800 members are currently unaccounted for, and initial reports indicate Haiti’s main prison has collapsed, freeing many inmates. United Nations mission chief in Haiti Hedi Annabi was likely among a number of UN staff who perished in the quake or aftermath.
